Alice Delores Biliske

EDMOND —     Alice Delores Biliske, 87, passed away Wednesday, April 3 at her daughter’s home in Edmond, Okla. She was born July 19, 1925 in Wayne, Mich. to Otto Dorow and his wife Clara (Eichsteadt) Dorow.  She was the oldest of their six children:  her sisters and brother are listed in their birth order as follows:  Lila, Lionel, Delphine Ivan and Elna.

Alice was baptized and a confirmed member of the Lutheran church for her entire life.  She graduated from Romulus High School in 1943 during WWII.  She completed her nurse’s training through the Army Cadet Corp at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich. in 1946, the year after the end of the war.

Alice met John Martin when she was 21, working in the TB ward at Henry Ford Hospital.  They were married May 9, 1948 in Fenton, Mich. and were blessed with four children.  After his death in 1958 Alice and children moved to Nome, Alaska to work in the Lutheran mission hospital.

Her career as a nurse provided her the opportunity to travel from Alaska to Tacoma Wash., Albuquerque, N.M., and Bakersfield, Calif., before settling in Oklahoma.  From 1966 until her retirement in 1984, she worked at various community hospitals in central Oklahoma.          Alice loved viewing wild birds and watching flowers grow from her kitchen window.  She was especially fond of her colorful and fragrant roses.

Those who cherish her memory include children: Linda Shoemake of Oklahoma City, Okla., Marie Martin of Albuquerque, N.M., David (Diana) Martin and Sandra (Clay) Schrimsher all of Edmond, and Chuck Biliske of Canton, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, Donnie, Alicia, Joel, John, James, Natalie, Chris, Kyle, Justin and Kevin; 16 great grandchildren, Garrett, Rowdy, Mason, Noah, Randi, Isaac, Isabella, Jackson, Santiago, Abigail, Austin, Dillon, Addison, Katie, Emma and Addison; sisters, Lila Thompsen, Delphine Dusenberry, Elna Smartain; plus many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John and brothers, Lionel and Ivan.

The family expresses special thanks to the nursing aides from Florence Night and Day and Good Samaritan Hospice staff.

Memorial services for Alice will be 10 a.m. April 6, 2013 at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
