Mary Sue Dark Arnspiger

EDMOND —     Mary Sue Dark Arnspiger, 89, a longtime resident of Edmond, left this world to be with our Lord on Friday, February 28, 2014, in Harlingen, Texas.  She was employed in the Alumni Office at Central State University for many years and retired from TG&Y.  She moved to South Padre Island, Texas, in the late ‘70’s where she resided in her home on the island with her husband, John Arnspiger, until his death in 1983.  She moved to Harlingen due to illness in 2008.

        She came to Edmond in 1947 with her first husband, A. Dean Dark, after his employment with Sohio Oil Company.  They established their home on Benton Road and raised two children, Deanna Sue and Henry Dean “Hank”.  The elder Mr. Dark passed away in August, 1961.

Sue was active in the First Methodist Church of Edmond and was a Sunday School teacher and a Cub Scout leader.  She is also listed as a past president of the American Women’s Auxiliary (VFW).

    Her love of the ocean lead to her affiliation with the founder of what is now Sea Turtle, Inc., on Padre Island which specializes in the preservation of the local sea turtle population.  She worked at the Tiki Resort and volunteered at the public library in Port Isabel, was active in the Island Shell Club and enjoyed metal detecting and shelling on the beaches near her home.

    She is survived by her daughter Deanna S. Gallion of Edmond, grandson, Justin S. and wife LouAnn Gallion, daughters, Stephanie A. and Jessica Lauren and sons Jared T. and Tyler Shane, granddaughter, Marty M’Lisa and husband Steven J. Newport, daughter M’Lissa Paige and son Cooper James.  Ms. Arnspiger’s son Hank, resides in Cedar Falls, Iowa with his wife, Judi; granddaughter, Ami Dark-Rosen, daughter Sarah; granddaughter Beth and husband Scott Ochsner, two daughters, Katherine and Anne and son Luke; grandson Michael and wife Angie Dark, daughter Reese and son Landon.  Mrs. Arnspiger leaves a legacy of five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

    The family would like to extend its gratitude to Ms. Tina Sanchez and her family for their selfless love and attention that was given to Mrs. Arnspiger during her illness.

    A pending memorial service will be at Canterbury Gardens, 1002 King Arthur Ct., Harlingen, TX, 78550.
