EDMOND —
Virginia Pearl Salyer Cherry, 95, of Edmond, Okla., a mother and a woman of great faith in Jesus, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 at her home. She was born November 30, 1917, in Anadarko, Okla., to Sarah Elizabeth Chapman and Pearl Wade Salyer. She attended school in Davenport and Minco before moving to Overton, Texas. She was in the beginning classes of Kilgore Junior College during its first year. At 19 she left school her sophomore year to marry Frederick Tinsley Cherry, who was a petroleum engineer with the oil company where her father worked.
Their four pre-war children, Starley, Ronnie, Mary, and Jenny, were born before Fred left to serve 44 months in WWII, and their four post-war children, Carmen, John, Freddie, and Sarah, were born after he returned.
They moved to Edmond and to the country where Virginia lived the last 62 years. Their three preacher kids Mark, Ruth, and Rachel, were born after they moved to Edmond.
Their four sons are Ronald Wade of Austin, Texas, John Wallace and Fred Smith of Edmond, and Mark Cherry of Shawnee Okla. The six living Cherry girls are Starley Ann Bullard of Edmond, Mary Frances Burleson of Norman Okla., Virginia (Jenny) Lee McMonigle of Edmond, Sarah Janyth Wilkins of Mustang, Ruth Elaine Couts of Mustang, and Rachel Lynn Fraim of Edmond.
Their daughter, Carmen Corynne Cherry, lived and worked in Kansas until her death in 1990. Fred Cherry, Virginia’s husband, died in Texas in 1970.
Virginia continued living in Cherry Hollow her last years enjoying her art and her family of 11 children, 42 grandchildren, 104 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Faith Bible Church in Edmond, under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond.

Nancy Dorene Schulz, 78, of Edmond, Okla., passed away June 7, 2013 in Edmond. She was born January 17, 1935 in Clay Center, Kan., to Orin Jacob and Gwendolyn Jewell (Bray) Absher. She attended schools in Topeka, Kan., and graduated from Topeka High School in 1953. She married Fred Schulz at Euclid Methodist Church in Topeka on October 14, 1956.
