EDMOND —
Thelma Louise Eckenrode, 97, was born February 5, 1916 in Hazel Green, Mo., to Charlie and Roxie Mae Gallion. She died February 9, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Thelma lived a life full of stories and she loved to tell them. At a very young age, she was loaded into a covered wagon and made the journey as a pioneer woman from Missouri to Tulsa, Okla., a trip that today would take roughly four hours took her family 30 days. Throughout her life, especially as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, family always stayed central and was always on her mind. Her sharp mind allowed her to always remember birthdays and other family events making sure to send gifts and cards for birthdays and always making everyone feel included. Thelma enjoyed playing cards, dancing, especially the Charleston, and never missed a morning of reading her Bible. Her recipes and cooking were second to none. You have likely tasted one of her creations as she loved to share her recipes and pass them on to future generations.
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence Eckenrode; and one grandchild.
She is survived by her son, Charles Eckenrode and wife Barbara; daughter Sherma Holder and husband Vern, and five grandchildren: Charla Allison and husband Steve, Kathy Loyd and husband Rick, Sherri Corbett and husband Jimmy, Diana Pearson and husband Scott, and Greg McCain and wife Monica. She also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services celebrating Thelma’s life will be 1 p.m. Tuesday February 12, 2013 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 10100 Ridgeview Dr., Oklahoma City, OK 73120, under the direction of Crawford Family Funeral Service, Edmond. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City.
