EDMOND —
Nettie Dee Ray, 87, was born June 28, 1925 to A.M. and Ruth Pearce of Edmond, Okla. She went to be with her Heavenly Father November 9, 2012.
She attended Edmond schools and was a drum majorette in high school. She graduated from Edmond High in 1943. Dee met the love of her life Louis Ray while in High School and they married five years later on September 9, 1944. They were married almost 52 years and three sons were born of this union: Stanton C. Ray, Robert Desmond Ray and Tim D. Ray. She graduated from Central State University in 1947. Dee taught in Edmond Schools for 32 years and is remembered fondly by many of her former students. She was proud to be a member of The P.E.O. Sisterhood, an international women’s organization serving female students worldwide.
She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Edmond. One of Dee’s greatest joys was singing and she was a member in her church choir. Dee embraced life with a passion and will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Ray; her parents, Ruth and A.M. Pearce; two sisters, Pat Jacobs, Esther Gilmore and one brother, Newton Pearce.
She is survived by her three sons and one daughter-in-law, Stanton of Arcadia, Okla., Robert of Arcadia and Tim and wife Donna of Edmond; three grandchildren, Leigh Anne Ray of Edmond, April Rhenja and husband Hesham of Kissimmee, Fla., and Starla Dee-Ann Ray of Edmond; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry J. Pearce of Edmond; two sisters, Sarah Stults of Luther and Gracie Thompson of Arcadia as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Edmond’s First Baptist Church with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
