Roger Allen Benedict Sr. , 77, of Edmond, Okla., died October 3, 2013 after a valiant fight with pulmonary fibrosis.
Roger attended John Marshall High School and always referred to himself as a Britton boy. He graduated from Oklahoma State University, and joined the Army where he was chosen to be in the presidential honor guard in Washington, D.C. When he returned to Oklahoma City he was in the 45th Infantry Division of the National Guard.
Roger was a brick masonry and contractor and an artist in his own right. He was married to Lynn Benedict for 54 years, and was a loving husband, adoring father and grandfather..
Roger was preceded in death by his mother Sue, his father Henry Benedict and sister Jerie Smith and is survived by his brother Henry Benedict.
Brick by brick, Roger worked hard for his large family that he always wanted, which included daughter Barbara and husband Mark Dubberstein and grandchildren Hart, Jake, Gavin and Roslyn; daughter Theresa Benedict and husband Philip Sanders; son Roger and wife Stacy Benedict and grandchildren Brittan, Hannah, Brady, and Hallie; son Joe Benedict and son Thomas Verlon Benedict born on his dad’s birthday and deceased in a car accident at 17 years old.
Roger was an avid golfer at Lake Hefner Golf Course until he could not physically play anymore. Roger’s life was touched with beautiful relatives and compassionate, caring, helpful neighbors and friends.
At Roger’s request there will be no viewing or services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Physician’s Choice Hospice 1000 NW 139th St Parkway, Edmond, Oklahoma 73034 in tribute to their tender loving constant care of Roger.
