LaDonna Kim Culp DuChamp

EDMOND —     LaDonna Kim Culp DuChamp, 59, was born March 19, 1954 and went home to be with Jesus on February 23, 2014.  Kim was born in St. Louis, Mo., and then moved to Edmond, Okla. in 1970 where she attended Edmond High School, graduating in 1972.  She then attended Abilene Christian University and Texas Women’s University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Kim was a neonatal nurse at Integris and dedicated 30 years to caring for sick babies and their families.  She was a true professional, admired and loved by her co-workers.  Everyone who met her was inspired by her positive outlook.  She had a loving spirit that was reflected in her patient care and daily living.  She was full of life and up-beat which was not always easy to do in the NICU.  She cared for her patients with the same love and compassion that she gave to her friends and loved ones.  She kept her insatiable sense of humor and made work fun.  Whether she was wearing a pair of giant bling earrings or tiara with “princess” on it, Kim made a statement. Her co-workers will long remember her dedication and commitment to excellence.  Her NICU family loved her and she left a lasting impression that will stay with us all.

Kim had a beautiful alto voice and loved to sing choral music.  She sang in the A Cappella chorus at Abilene Christian University and also was a member of Canterbury choir in Oklahoma City.  In addition, she sang on the praise team at the New Hope Church of Christ in Edmond.

Kim loved her church family, her friends and workers at Integris Baptist Hospital, and her Bible Study Fellowship groups. She had so many friends that loved her and showed that love by their consistent support as she battled cancer.

Kim will be remembered as someone who loved Jesus and put her faith and hope in Him.  Even while she battled cancer and went through difficult times, she maintained a positive outlook and looked for the good in all.  She was fiercely independent and fearless in travels with friends, always willing to try new adventures such as white water rafting, skydiving, mountain bike rides, and skiing.

Kim was preceded in death by her father, Claude Dean Culp, and her mother, Betty Ann Green Culp Nusbaum and step-father, Jack Ray Nusbaum.

She is survived by her son, Philip James DuChamp of Indianapolis, Ind., and her brother David Culp of Austin, Texas.  Kim had a step-sister, Judy Henss, and two step-brothers, Don Nusbaum, and Paul Nusbaum.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday February 26, 2014 at New Hope Church of Christ in Edmond. Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
