Bill Lee Burd

EDMOND — Bill Burd was born on July 10, 1934 in Lebo, Kan. to Ira and Viola Burd. He attended Strawn Rural High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball and graduated in 1952. Bill married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jo Claycamp, and made their home in Emporia, Kan. Bill was a truck driver for Braum’s for 35 years which relocated them to Edmond, Okla. in 1971.

Bill enjoyed family gatherings, hunting with his brothers and friends, collecting toothpick holders, and cheering on his beloved OU football and OKC Thunder basketball teams. He also enjoyed his garage time, sitting out on his back patio, playing cards, going to garage and estate sales, listening to his country music and taking naps in his recliner while watching Gunsmoke.

Bill is preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Hinds of Linwood, Kan. Bill leaves his wife, Mary Jo of the home; Children, Rhonda Burd of Stephenville, Texas and Scott Burd of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Grandchildren, Jason Hinds, Carrie Fewins and her husband Scott, Joshua Hinds and Abigail, and Gus Burd; 9 great-grandchildren as well as other family and friends.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Bill will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the New Strawn Community Center in New Strawn, Kan. with a graveside to proceed at Bowman-Adgate Cemetery in Coffey County, Kan.
