David Wayne Winham

EDMOND —     David Wayne Winham, 77, of Edmond, Okla., was born Dec. 30, 1934 in Cache, Okla. to Audrey and Faye Winham. David graduated from Lawton High School.

At 17 he entered the U.S. Air Force and he served in Korea and Vietnam. He was an Air Traffic controller and was the first M.O.B. into Vietnam. David was decorated 15 times and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.

    After retirement David earned a degree in psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma and worked on his master’s degree. He was an avid golfer and was known to his golfing buddy’s as “Bear”. He enjoyed this game until his health prevented him from playing. David was also known to all that knew him as a very generous and kind person drawing all those to him with his charismatic personality. He was a song writer and a published poet. David was a member of the Edmond Christian Church ambassador Sunday school class and small group and he was a counselor for CONTACT.

    He is survived by his wife Sandra of the home, sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Trisha Winham of Mustang, Okla., Dan and Kathy Winham of Chickasha, Okla. and John and Karen Winham of Yukon, Okla.; stepchildren Chris and Chavette Roberson of The Village and Trent and Tanna Horst of Piedmont; grandchildren, Wes Winham, Riley and wife Alli Winham, Keston and Asher Horst, and Cimbry Roberson.

    David was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Arnold Demoine.

    Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Edmond Christian Church. Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
