Raymond Carlton Searles, Sr.

EDMOND —     Raymond Carlton Searles, 83, of Edmond Okla., passed away April 7, 2013. He was born August 17, 1929 to Earnest Richard Searles Sr. and Dorothy Ellen (Garrow) Searles of Fairfax, Vt.

    Raymond served in the U.S. Air Force, 1948-1952, with tours in Maryland, Alaska, and Florida. Raymond met his soon-to-be lifelong wife Joan Louise Baldwin of Hilo, Hawaii, at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. They married April 6, 1952 in Florida and after leaving the U.S. Air Force, moved to New Hampshire to continue building their life and legacy together.

    In 1962, Raymond packed up his wife and kids into an old school bus and drove to Azusa, Calif. where he enjoyed a career as a furniture prototype machinist while raising his children. After retiring, Raymond moved to Edmond in 2007, and most recently celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary with Joan on April 6, 2013.

    Raymond is preceded in death by his parents Earnest and Dorothy; brothers Earnest Jr. and Kenneth; sister Mildred Mosier; and daughter-in-law Charla F. (Chisum) Searles wife of Raymond C. Searles Jr.

    He is survived by his loving wife Joan; children Richard I. Searles of Azusa Calif., Raymond C. Searles Jr. of Pahrump Nev., Barbara A. Horton and husband Pat of Des Moines, Iowa, Robert R. Searles and wife Barbara of Edmond, Roger C. Searles and wife Kathleen of Williamsburg Va., and Beverly M. Searles of Levittown Pa.; grandchildren Gidget Najera, Charlene Searles, Victoria Searles, Katie Searles, Aimee Butler, Rachael Short, Nicole Searles, Crystal Searles, Jonathon Paul, Allison Donner, and Bobby Donner, and many beautiful great-grandchildren.

    Raymond’s wishes were for interment at sea, for which Raymond’s best friend of more than 40 years, Captain Richard J. Ulrich of Ventura Calif., will personally see to.

    Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at Edmond Community of Christ, 1200 E. Danforth, Edmond, OK 73034. Cremation service by Bill Merritt Funeral Service, Bethany.
