Jack E. Mulkey

EDMOND —     Jack E. Mulkey, 95, of Edmond, Okla., former director of Economic Development for the Edmond Chamber of Commerce, died May 28, 2013 in Edmond. He had been retired since 1985 and had lived in Edmond with his wife, Charlotte, since then.

    After five years in the U.S. Army, he spent most of his life in education as a teacher, counselor, principal, college president, and organizer of Job Corps centers throughout the United States.  During his college days, Jack was a nationally recognized football player. He was chosen as a Little All American end in 1938 and 1939; the first ever from Fresno State.  In 1940 he was picked to play in the East-West Shrine game, also a first from Fresno State.  He was selected by several national sportswriters as the best football End in the nation.  He was enshrined in the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame in 1975.

    He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Stephens.

    Jack is survived by his wife Charlotte of the home; a sister, Marge Nelson of Los Banos, Calif.; two children, Jack Jr., and  Kay Montalvo; two step-children Mark Witzel and Lisa Witzel; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

    Private family services will be held in Yosemite National Park at a later date.
