John Underwood

EDMOND —     John Underwood, 90, was born January 6, 1923 to John and Bera Underwood in Ada, Okla.

John retired from 32 years of service to Loffland Brothers Company in 1983. John started with Loffland as a field clerk in November 1952 and retired as vice-president of international sales.  His profession moved him and his family to several different locations throughout the USA and Venezuela, and he traveled the globe in pursuit of Loffland’s interests, supervising operations in Venezuela, Columbia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Libya, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan and Australia.

After retiring, John and his wife Helen moved from Tulsa, Okla., to Conroe, Texas due to its warm year-round climate and multitude of golf courses.  John was an avid golfer and formed many friendships through the game.  He served his country from 1943-1945 in the United States Army as a staff sergeant.  John moved from Conroe to an assisted living complex in Oklahoma City in 2012.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 60 years, Helen L. Underwood, and his sister, Wray Auten.  John was a loving father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his three children and their spouses: Gary and Jayne Underwood of Edmond, Okla.; Ron and Sharolyn Underwood of Lafayette, La. and Missy and David Louy of Norman, Okla. His five grandchildren, Tyler and Tanner Underwood, Michael and Lauren Underwood and Sarah Louy will remember “Papa Juan” fondly.

The family thanks John’s many friends and extended family members and all those who have expressed loving condolences, and also acknowledge Epworth at Home and the management and staff of Epworth Villa who eased John’s transition to a better place.

A private family memorial service has been planned for John, who wished to be cremated. Arrangements are being provided by Corbett Funeral Home.

Memorial  contributions may be made in John Underwood’s name to either of three charitable organizations he supported: Boys Town, USA; Pepper’s Ranch in Guthrie, Okla., or the American Cancer Society.

Family and friends may express their condolences online at
