EDMOND —
Robert Gregory Jennings, 64, lost his courageous battle with cancer on October 16, 2012. Bob was born December 20, 1947 to William and Eleanor Jennings in Philadelphia, Pa.
He graduated from Milton Hershey High School in Hershey, Pa., in 1965 and from Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pa. in 1969.
Bob studied dentistry at Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa. and graduated in 1973. He proudly and honorably served his country as a dentist in the United States Air Force for 24 years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1997. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from the USAF, he followed his dream of teaching at The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry as a Professor of Oral Diagnosis. He retired from the OU Health Science Center in 2009.
Bob married his college sweetheart Carol Rutt Jennings August 5, 1972, and they had two children: Eric Jennings of Edmond and Amy Jennings Leddy of Tulsa. Bob’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren George and Annie...and his Schnauzer “grand-dogs” Wiley & Gracie. He also enjoyed working out at the Edmond YMCA, playing his saxophone, traveling, fishing, gardening, bird watching, turkey hunting, and telling his favorite stories. He was an enthusiastic fan of the OU Football and Women’s Basketball teams.
Bob is survived by his wife Carol; son Eric, daughter-in-law Amanda and grandson George; daughter Amy Leddy, son-in-law Toby Leddy, granddaughter Annie Leddy; nephew John Eric Jennings of Arvada, Colo.; and mother-in-law Polly Rutt of Edmond.
The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and compassion of all the personnel at OU Edmond Medical Center and Interim Hospice.
A Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2012 at First Christian Church, 201 East Second Street, Edmond. Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond.
