EDMOND —
Agnes O. Cortright, 87, peacefully left our world to be with her Lord and Savior on August 9, 2012.
She was born December 6, 1924 in Continental, Ohio, to Vernie Earl McClure and Rosetta Mary McClure. The family moved to Normal, Ill., in 1936, and she married Wendell S. Cortright on June 15, 1941 in Normal. After 10 years in Michigan, she and her husband established roots in California in the early 50’s. Agnes became a licensed vocational nurse in the early 60’s, a profession she practiced passionately and lovingly until her retirement in 1977.
She enjoyed dancing, baseball games, bingo, writing poetry, most importantly her grandchildren and family. She will always be remembered for her smile, sense of humor, helping hand, unconditional love and her faith in God. She will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Sharon Cortright and three brothers; Alva, Herbert and Clifford McClure.
She is survived by a daughter, Wanda I. Carr of Cherokee Village, Ark., a son, Brian W. Cortright of Coto de Caza, Calif.; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2012, at Heritage Baptist Church, Edmond, officiated by Pastor Steve Rains. Interment at Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond, under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond.
