Charles Coker

EDMOND —     Charles “Chuck” Coker, 79, was born December 15, 1932 in Durant, Okla., one of 12 children to Seth Thomas and Ellen Lucinda Coker. He died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in Oklahoma City.

Chuck had to be the most caring and loving person in the world. First and foremost, he loved his Lord. Because of this love, he was able to offer an unconditional love and adoration for his wife, Clydeane and his two daughters. As a deacon at the church in Durant, he humbly served his church family. When Chuck had a free moment, you would likely find him having a cup of coffee with friends, reading a book, or just taking life at a slower pace on an afternoon drive.

After retiring from the National Guard he and Clydeane enjoyed traveling the country. Perhaps the mark he will be remembered by is his signature sound: whistling. Chuck loved to whistle and as a quiet man, he often whistled more than he spoke.

Chuck is predeceased by his parents, nine brothers and sisters.

He is survived by Clydeane, his soul-mate and wife of almost 60 years; daughters Brenda McDonald and husband Kenny, and Linda Steele and husband Dennis; sisters Carole Jenks and husband Max, and Betty Latimer; and brother-in-law Gary Swan and wife Sandra. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Kyle and Katie McDonald, Kasey McDonald and Amanda Worley, Stephanie Steele and Steven Steele; his precious great-grandchildren Kailyn Steele and Abbigail McDonald,  and nieces, nephews and a very special friend, Jeremiah Duvall.

Services celebrating Chuck’s life will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 at Seminole Pointe Church of Christ in Oklahoma City under the direction of Crawford Family Funeral Service of Edmond. A graveside committal will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Okla.

The family suggests donations in Chuck’s memory be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. To leave online condolences please visit www.crawfordcares.com.
