Betty Jo Burnstein

EDMOND —     Betty Jo Burnstein, 70, died August 22, 2013 at her home in Edmond, Okla.  She was born September 17, 1942, in Haileyville, Okla., the sixth of seven children of Gustie and Dee Holliday.

She and her siblings were raised in Hartshorne, Okla.  and she graduated from Hartshorne High School before moving to Oklahoma City, Okla. where she married Jerry Burnstein, her loving and devoted husband of 47 years.

She was a remarkable woman, who cared for others needs before her own and always managed to make time to talk to others.   She is remembered by the sweetness of her heart and the sweets always baked for her houseguests.  Not once did she ever forget a birthday or special event for a friend or family member and she doted over her grandchildren with masterfully hand-sewn Halloween costumes and holiday crafts.  From an era of Tupperware Parties, Cub Scout meetings, and S&H Green Stamps, she was to put it simply, a Super-Mom.

Her dedication to family, home, and yard was the sacred sanctuary of her love.  Surprisingly, she became an avid tennis enthusiast later in life.  She enjoyed the challenge of the sport as a participant and shared the same level of enthusiasm as a spectator. Thanks to the tennis bug, she made lifelong friendships both on and off the court.  She will always be cherished and remembered by those lives that she touched.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Robert Holliday, Jerry Holliday, and Johnny Holliday, and sister, Norma Jean Bishop.

She is survived by her brother Roy Holliday; sister Mary Alice Sharp; husband Jerry Burnstein; daughter Leigh Burnstein, three sons, Jerry Burnstein Jr., David Burnstein, and Steven Burnstein; eight grandchildren; and many friends.

Visitation for Betty will be 2:30 - 9 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at the Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, OK 73003.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA)
