EDMOND —
Robert William, “Bill” Horn, 82, of Edmond, Okla., passed away peacefully in his daughter’s home on September 20, 2012, after a brief battle with Acute Leukemia. He was born in McKinney Texas on February 20, 1930 the son of William Franklin Horn and Johnny Faulkner Horn.
Bill graduated from Boyd High School in McKinney and attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. He joined the United States Air Force in 1950, where he served nine years as a director of family services assisting next of kin with arrangements for military funerals and benefits. He spent a number of years working for Texas Pacific Railroad and Central of Georgia Railroad. In the 1960’s he started in the food and hotel business where he managed the Rio Motor Hotels in Fort Worth, Ardmore and Oklahoma City. Bill worked 25 years as the head waiter at the Haunted House Restaurant in Oklahoma City, and also worked as a hairdresser. In 1994 he fulfilled his lifetime dream of owning his own restaurant when he opened Twelve Oaks restaurant in Edmond. Bill also enjoyed farming and ranching for many years.
Bill is survived by his sister Elnora Horn Geer, 96, of McKinney, Texas; daughters Lisa Janes and husband Gregg of Edmond, Julie Coffey Chieffalo of Fort Worth, Texas, David Sherrill of Linden, Va. and Robert Sherrill of Mansfield Texas; grandchildren Brandon Janes and wife Megan, Olivia Means and husband Eric, Morgan and Ella Coffey, Mandy, Willa, Justin, Kristen, Kinze and Kalee Sherrill; and 10 great grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Physician’s Choice Hospice, Dr. Robert Reynold’s, Dr. Mark Lynn and all of Bill’s loyal Twelve Oaks employees and customers.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 26 at Matthews Funeral Home.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday September 27 at Crossings Community Church Chapel.
A private family interment will be at Pecan Grove Cemetery, McKinney Texas.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
