EDMOND —
Hilda B. Alberts, 100, of Edmond, Okla., passed away July 26, 2012 in Edmond. She was born May 9, 1912 in Friendship Heights, Md., to E. Reeves and Effie Braddock.
In 1914, at the age of two, Hilda came to Oklahoma with her family where she lived, attended school and later graduated from Britton High School in the town then known as Britton, Okla. In 1932 she married John B. Alberts. She worked in an Oklahoma City department store accounting office for a number of years before becoming a devoted mother and housewife in 1940 after the birth of her only son Jack. In 1950, the Alberts family moved to Texas where they remained until the death of Hilda’s husband, John. In 1970, Hilda returned to Oklahoma City to live with her sister and in 2000, she moved to the Copper Lake Estates independent living facility where she remained until her passing.
Hilda was a lifelong crossword puzzle addict and at Copper Lake Estates, a recognized and devoted bingo player and winner.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dorothy B. Cantrell.
She is survived by her son, Jack B. Alberts of Houston, Texas; nephew, Bob McCutchan and wife Susie of Edmond; nieces, Sue Scruggs of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Barbara Gee of Granbury, Texas, and a large number of grand- and great-grand nephews and nieces.
At her request, Hilda will be buried quietly without ceremony in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Selected services were under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond.
