EDMOND —
Carl A. French, 68, of Leavenworth, Kan., formerly of Edmond, Okla., died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at his home. He was born Aug. 20, 1944, in Wamego, Kan., the son of Carlton and Vivian (Squires) French.
For more than 30 years Carl was employed as a stress analyst by the Boeing Company in Wichita, Kan. and Oklahoma City, Okla. In 2001 he was named an Associate Technical Fellow, recognizing his expertise in the field of aging aircraft.
On April 30, 1968, he married Jane L. Papenberg in Wichita; she survives him. His other survivors include three sons: Geoffrey (Melissa) of Alexandria,Va., Matthew (Oona) of Anchorage, Alaska, Michael (Amanda) of Atchison, Kan.; eight grandchildren: Fiona, Molly, Everett, Jack, William, Elizabeth, Genevieve, and Felicity; two sisters: Sylvia (Ron) Moore of Maryland Heights, Mo.; Vivian (Glen) Kochanowski of Salina, Kan., and many nephews and nieces.
Carl enjoyed music, both as a trumpet player and singer. He was a member of the Cody Choraliers, the local chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader in Wichita for many years.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, beginning with a prayer service, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, 4701 10th Ave., Leavenworth, Kan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Casimir Church, 715 Pennsylvania, Leavenworth, Kan. with Rev. Phillip Winklebauer as celebrant. Cremation will follow. Burial will be held at a later date in the Fall Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Cody Choraliers (education fund) or a charity of your choice.
