George Robert Staley of Edmond, Okla., passed away March 5, 2013. Born in 1918, he was raised in Britton, Okla. and graduated from Britton High School in 1936 before continuing his education in aviation. George served with the Army Air Force in WWII as a pilot and later for Amoco Pipelines. He always enjoyed figuring out how to fix anything from engines to clocks. His family and friends will greatly miss his witty and dry sense of humor, as well as his love for music.
In 1990, he married Doris Holeman Hopkins after their reintroduction at Britton High School’s 50-year class reunion.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Manluff and Myrtle Steers Staley; his older brother, Franklin Staley; sister, Mary Evelyn Cooper, and step daughter Susie Cooper.
George is survived by his wife, Doris Staley of Edmond; step-daughter Pam and Jim Stockard of Sapulpa, Okla.; stepson Ronald Cooper of Garber, Okla.; three step-grandchildren, Kimberly Butler of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jil and Guy Gaylor of Jenks, Okla., and Jennifer Cooper of New York; two great-stepgrandchildren, Katelyn Butler and Jase Gaylor; brother-in-law George Cooper; niece Vicki Cooper and her children, Rachel and Andrew Atchly of Denver, Colo., nephew Larry and Ann Cooper of Tuttle, Okla., and their children, Kelly Cates and Nicki Stein.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond with Dr. Dan Maxwell and Dr. Jim Davidson officiating. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Chisholm Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.
