Larry Eugene Rhude, “The Donut Man”, 74, passed away December 7, 2013 at the OU Trauma Center. He was born February 3, 1939 in Warsaw, Ind., to Ruth Mae (Miller) Rhude and Howard Vern Rhude.
He graduated valedictorian from Jefferson High School in Goshen, Ind., in 1957 and served in the Army from 1958 to 1960 as a radio operator.
Larry married his grade school sweetheart Judy Marie Hoffman in 1961. He attended Western Michigan University with Judy where their two boys Tom and Andy were born. Larry received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education and Math in 1964.
Larry and Judy built a beautiful home in the woods in Bristol Ind., where they raised their two boys and their daughter Amy was born. The family relocated to Edmond, Okla., in 1981. They owned and operated three Daylight Donut shops in Edmond for more than 16 years.
Larry was a carpenter, builder, fixer, tinkerer, outdoorsman, baker and loving father, husband and grandfather. His last act before his accident was making sure the house was ready for a severe winter storm.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; their three children, seven grandchildren and many extended family members.
The family thanks the staff of the OU Trauma center for the care they provided to Larry, and for all the thoughts and prayers of so many wonderful people from around Edmond who knew Larry.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m., Friday, December 13, at Fairview Baptist Church, Danforth and Sooner, in Edmond.
