Ira Isch

EDMOND —     Ira Isch, 84, of Edmond, Okla., was born September 24, 1927 in Grimes, Okla. He passed away April 27, 2012.

As the second child of his family, his responsibility was heightened when his older brother Billy preceded him to heaven as a teenager. Ira worked on the family farm during the Dust Bowl until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945, and later transferred to the United States Army and served in the United States Army Air Force until 1967. Ira elected to stay in the U.S. Army and was accepted to officer candidate school.

His military career allowed Ira to see several parts of the world. He lived stateside with the family as well as in Germany. He received promotions several times and he was a Major in the U.S. Army at the time of his retirement.  One of his favorites stations was in Alaska, and he enjoyed  his time in South Korea and Germany as well.

Ira met the love of his life, Ruth Cox, and they were married on January 18, 1953. Ira’s role as a father began and blossomed after six children were born and reared by Ira and Ruth:  Mike,  Patti, Mark, Gary and Pam and Greg. The family settled in Deer Creek and Ira lived there until his death. The Isch family expanded thru marriage with many sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, and the birth of seven grandchildren, Jessica and Joshua Sturgeon, Amy and Lisa Brown, and Justin, Nancy and Mary Isch, and as well as two great-grandchildren.

Ira was an air traffic controller for a few years after retiring from the Army. He graduated with a bachelor degree in education then received his MBA a few years later. Ira was employed by several organizations, including the job corps centers, Oklahoma corrections as teacher, Oklahoma Department of Libraries in the literacy department, FKW, and the Angel Tree ministry. Ira taught Sunday school at Spring Creek Baptist Church, North Pointe Baptist Church, and Bethel Congregational Church. He also became a certified land man in the oil and gas industry, and was proud to have earned a doctorate in Theology studies.

Ira, Dad, Paw-paw, Uncle Ira, you  will be missed greatly by many but heaven is much richer now that you have arrived. We love you always!

Ira’s life will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012  at Crawford Family Funeral Service, Edmond with burial at Whisler Cemetery.
