Jane Arrington

EDMOND —     Celebration of Life Services for Jane Arrington, 80, of Canadian, Texas, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Canadian with the Rev. Travis Allen and Rev. Sydne Allen, co-officiating.  Interment will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, Texas.

    Jane passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in Canadian.

    Jane was born on August 12, 1933, in Norman, Okla., to Judith Virgin Coker and Charles B. “Chick” Coker.  She attended public school in Plainview, Texas and Edmond, Okla.  She attended Monticello Girls school in Alton, Ill. and the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.  She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. 

    On August 7, 1953 she married George W. Arrington in Edmond.  In 1967 their family moved to Canadian, Hemphill County, Texas.  She was involved in all aspects of the family businesses and was a homemaker.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.  She served as an elder and participated in Women’s Association and other church activities.  Jane was Chairman of the Coffee Memorial Blood Drive in Canadian for more than 40 years.  George and Jane were honored by Coffee Memorial Blood Center with a Lifetime of Giving Award.  She was Chairman of Friends of Southwestern Art Committee at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, a member of the Circle of Friends and member of the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center Board.  She was a member of the Canadian Women’s Service League and was named Canadian-Hemphill County Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 1979.  Jane served as Dining Room Chairman for the very popular Hemphill County Library Annual Bazaar Lunch and Dinner for many years.  Jane was a very caring wife, mother and grandmother and always enjoyed events in which they were involved.  She enjoyed traveling, bridge and entertaining.

    The family wishes to express their gratitude for all the prayers and kindness extended. 

    She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles B. “Chick” and Judith Coker and a brother, Bob Coker. 

    Survi-vors include her husband of 60 years, George W. Arrington of Canadian; a daughter, Cathy Stephens and husband Jeff of Edmond; a daughter, Julie Culver and husband Ed of Canadian; a son, Mike Arrington and wife Debbie of Canadian; seven grandsons, Justin Dutton, Tyler Dutton, Capp Culver, Cade Culver and wife Danielle, Wade Arrington, Daggett Arrington and Clay Arrington and wife Taylor; a granddaughter, Carlee Culver and husband Randy; great-grandchildren, Cara Dutton, Camilla Cate Culver, Hunt Arrington, Callaway Arrington, a brother, Joe R. Coker of Norman; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Coffee Memorial Blood Center, 7500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79124; First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1122, Canadian, TX 79014; or a favorite charity.
