EDMOND —
Retired Oklahoma State Trooper Anthony ‘Tony’ C. Nelson, 70, was born October 26, 1942 in Culvert, Calif., to Cecil and Charlene Nelson. He went to be with our Heavenly Father December 21, 2012.
Tony spent his entire career working in law enforcement. He began his career working for the Watonga Police Department in Watonga, Okla.; later he began working as a ranger for Lake Arcadia in Edmond, Okla. In 1988 Tony began working for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and was positioned at the State Capital as a capital patrolman, and was later transferred to his dream position as a highway patrolman at Lake Thunderbird. Tony not only patrolled the highway between his home and the lake, but he patrolled the open waters of Lake Thunderbird. In 2002 Tony was named Oklahoma Trooper of the Year and IACP Southern Region Trooper of the Year representing 12 southern states for his actions of saving a young girls life that had been severely injured in a boating accident. His love for his family and his job showed in everything he did. Tony has received numerous accommodations during his 23 years of service for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Charles Nelson and brother Michael Nelson.
Tony is survived by his mother Charlene Grayson; sister Celeste Craig both of Lawton, Okla.; his loving wife Patsy Nelson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; children Callie Nelson of Mustang, Okla.; Anthony ‘Scott’ Nelson and wife Terri Nelson of Yukon, Okla., grandchildren, Amanda Gonzalez and husband Luis Gonzalez of Manhatten, Kan., Colby Gullett of Mustang, Anthony ‘Blake’ Nelson and fiance’ Karissa Coates of Oklahoma City, Brittany Low and husband Dakota Low of Yukon, Jacob Nelson of Yukon, and great-grandchildren Carson Low, Alexa Gonzalez, Ryker Low and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Bethany in Bethany Okla.
Services entrusted to the care of Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK. Baggerley will host a visitation Wednesday December 26, 2012 from 9am to 8pm with a family visitation from 6pm to 8pm. www.baggerley.com
