Wanda Jean Keel

EDMOND —     Wanda Jean Keel, 78, went to her Heavenly Father on January 20, 2013. She was born July 5, 1934 to her loving parents, Reta and Ellis Keel of Lebanon, Okla.

Wanda was a member of the Chickasaw Nation. During her high school years basketball and softball were her loves. She created lifelong friends during this time of her life.

Wanda graduated with a Master of Physical Education from Central State University in Edmond, Okla. After graduation she packed her ball and bat and headed to the great state of New Mexico. She was the head coach for a tribal school in Albuquerque, N.M. with an emphasis on girls softball and basketball.

Later in life she returned to Oklahoma to take care of both of her parents in their last years of life. She was a leader of S.P.O.R.T, (Softball Players Oklahoma Reunion Time), this organization raised money for worthwhile causes. She found joy in attending church with her sister at the Edmond Church of Christ. We know she is proud to be the newest “Angel in the Outfield”, with God as her Coach she is finally on her dream team.

Wanda is survived by her sisters Jane and Weldon Hawkins of Moore, Okla., and Phyllis Ricks Thomas of Edmond. Her final moments were surrounded by a family that loved and adored her.

She was an aunt/mother to Gary and Theresa Ricks, Pamela and Mike Payne, Shelly Hawkins, Craig and Phil Ricks and great nieces and nephews Leah, Austin, Shaylee, Justin and Colton.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday January 26, 2013 at the Edmond Church of Christ, 9th and Bryant.
