EDMOND —
Bernice V. Mowdy, 100, a resident of Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie, Okla., died Monday, August 13, 2012. An amazing staff cared and comforted her for the past two years, as did the staff of Companion Hospice.
Mrs. Mowdy was born in Geronimo, Okla., June 12, 1912. While living in Oklahoma, she became a longtime educator, graduating from Oklahoma University of Oklahoma with a Masters degree in Mathematics. During her years at OU, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and recently received her 75 year membership pin. She taught both music and math in elementary and secondary schools throughout the state, most of those years in Ada. Later, her home was California, and her teaching there included many years at Glendale High School and Saddleback College. Bernice completely retired at age 84, and enjoyed the company of her many friends at Freedom Village Assisted Living Center, in Laguna Hills, Calif..
Bernice is survived by a daughter, Penny Pirog and children of Louisville, Ky.; loving granddaughter Kristen Malone; great-granddaughter Eva Malone; great-grandson Connor Malone, and many nieces and nephews who will always cherish the personal memories, the wit and the sincere fellowship laced with love that was very much a part of her soul. We will all miss having her in our lives.
Memorials may be made to Golden Age Nursing Home of Guthrie, Okla. and Companion Hospice.
Private family services will be under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Edmond.
