Madge Marie Mitchell, 91, of Madill, Okla., passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at her residence in Madill. She was born December 29, 1921 in Tribbey, Okla., to Robert Martin Fowler and Lois Ann Atwood Fowler.
Madge was raised in Tribbey and graduated from Tribbey High School. She later attended Murray State College, East Central University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in teaching. She married Paul L. Mitchell on December 26, 1949 in Van Buren, Ark.,
Madge taught at Coalgate and Ardmore schools and later lived in Elk City, Edmond and Ardmore before moving to Madill in 1997. Madge was a member of the Madill Church of Christ, and she held many offices with the Tribbey Alumni and served as secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary in Madill. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi, Oklahoma City and Society of Petroleum Engineer wives.
She enjoyed sewing, genealogy, reading and writing. She was the author of three books titled “The Story of Pa,” “The Story of Tribbey,” and “The Vances: So Ardently Do They Cleave”. Her kids and grandchildren were the light of her life.
Madge was preceded in death by her parents; son David Mitchell, and sister Crystal Fowler.
She is survived by her husband, Paul L. Mitchell; children, Gary M. Bennett of Sadler, Texas, Ron L. Mitchell of Plano, Texas, Donna M. Sutherland of Madill, and Mark A. Mitchell of Plano; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and brother Robert M. Fowler Jr. of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill, officiated by Richard Jones and Tom Frank. Interment will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Tribbey Cemetery, Tribbey, Okla. under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.
