EDMOND —     Monty Lynn Grice, 51, of Troutman, N.C., formerly of Edmond, Okla., peacefully left this world to be with his Savior on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, with loved ones by his side. He was born into racing in Oklahoma City, Okla., on May 9, 1961 to the late Nolagene “Doc” and Lorraine Dragoo Grice.

Monty continued throughout his life to build upon the legacy bestowed before him. Monty’s passion for racing and his talent for fabricating led him into a lifelong career of chassis building. First guided by his father’s hands, his journey to success included building super mods, IMCA dirt mods, shop foreman for Dirt Works Racing which then led him to his dream job at Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. Although he obtained a job in the NASCAR Industry, he never lost his love for dirt racing. Building his own IMCA dirt modifieds, Freedom Chassis, he had many successful winning race cars that were a great source of pride.

He loved his family and friends deeply and with humble strength, guided his family with wisdom and love. Helping others was his greatest pleasure. Monty stayed true to his God; it was his faith that carried him through his 6-½ year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ted Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Kristi Janes Grice; children, Jennifer Grice-Perrodin and husband Kendall, Ryan Grice, and Nathan Grice; sister Karen Sleeper and husband Larry; brother Donnie Grice; and grandchildren, Kaitlynn Perrodin, Kaiden Perrodin, and Hunter Grice; many aunts, uncles, and an abundance of loving friends.
