EDMOND —
Jennifer Joan Birdsong, 50, of Edmond, Okla., devoted wife, beloved mother and grandmother, departed this life to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. She died at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born April 14, 1962 in Hammond, Ind., to Patricia and John Zaikis. At age three, Jenny moved with her family to Oklahoma where she later attended Oklahoma Christian Schools, and graduated from high school in Tonkawa, Okla., in 1980.
Jennifer married Ron Birdsong in Oklahoma City, Okla., in September 1993. She worked in children’s retail and was active as a leader in Girl Scouts. She performed as the Easter Bunny and later was better known as Sunny Moon the Clown or Mrs. Claus. She was Chief Joey of the Just Say Ho Clown Alley which became Ho Ho’s Central Oklahoma Clown Alley and was a regular instructor with Camp Funny-Bone and was inducted into the National Clown and Laughter Hall of Fame.
She was preceded in death by her mother Patricia Zaikis, her dad, John Zaikis, and her father, Gus O’Kray.
She is survived by her husband Ron Birdsong of the home; her daughters, Aimee and husband Aaron Hazel of Blanchard, Myka Plunkett of New York City, and Jenika Birdsong of Edmond; stepson Derrick Birdsong of Chandler; grandchildren, Karyss, Kyleigh, and Addyson Hazel; and her sisters, Shelly Zaikis, Tammy Zaikis, and her brother Tony Zaikis and wife Becky. She was honorary mom, grandmother or aunt for many. Jennifer never met a stranger and was best known for making friends with everyone she met. We will all miss her wonderful, heartfelt laugh and her loving spirit.
A viewing for friends was held 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012. Services are planned for 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at Crossings Community Church, 14600 N. Portland, Oklahoma City with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery, 7801 N. W. Expressway, Oklahoma City. Services provided by Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly Ave, Edmond, Ok.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the family for help with medical expenses.
