EDMOND —
Roy Weeks Jackson, Jr., 84, was born June 29, 1928 to Mollie Jewel and Roy Weeks Jackson in Oklahoma City, Okla. His grandparents Lotta T and Ephram Jackson were Oklahoma 89ers that settled in Oklahoma City.
Roy graduated from Classen High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corp during the final days of WWII (serving in the Philippines and Japan). After his tour of duty he graduated from Oklahoma City University with a BS in Physics. He was employed by General Electric Co in their early warning radar division, and was transferred to General Electrics NASA division working with the ATLAS missile systems in Cheyenne, Wyo. Later he was a manager involved in the first manned space flight and then the Saturn missle systems helping to land the first man on the moon. Monsanto Corp offered Roy a position in commercial electronics in St. Louis, and then finally Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Roy was a Delta Psi Omega, Kappa Alpha officer, member of the Freemasons Blue Lodge, lifetime member of the NRA, Instrument Society of America, Coast Guard Auxiliary, United Way Campaign, campaign manager for Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa, and in the homebuilders class of First Christian Church of Edmond (which brought him many dear friends).
Roy married Beverly Jo Brown in 1953. They have three children: Kurt and wife Meri Jackson, granddaughters Amanda and Sarah of Kellogg, Iowa, Roy and wife Vergie Jackson of Portland Ore., and daughter Julianne Kisselburgh, and grandchildren Christopher, Ashley, and Cody Kisselburgh of Rockwall Texas. One great-granddaughter Tatum Keen, also of Rockwall. Roy also has one surviving sister Louella Fitzgerald in Dallas.
He is preceded into Heaven by his parents Roy and Mollie and sisters Mary, Ruth and Charlotte.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at First Christian Church in Edmond.
