EDMOND —
Lou Allie Owens Greist, 100, was born September 3, 1912 in Arlie, Texas to Lyfus Steven Owens and Ada Mae Crook.
Lou graduated from Lubbock High School, Lubbock, Texas. She graduated from Oklahoma University with a degree in Social Work and a Masters degree from the University of California at Berkley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 12 brothers and sisters and two nephews, and her husband Elwood Carter Greist.
Lou is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Morey and son-in-law John B. Morey, grandchildren Mary Lou Morey, John B. Morey V and wife Melissa, and Michael Barrett Morey; great grandchildren Katy Ann Pudlo and husband Michael, Trey Finsterwald, John B. Morey VI and Carter Barrett Morey; great-great granddaughter Avery Claire Pudlo; nieces and nephews and the extended Greist family of California.
Lou loved watching the sunsets from the white sands of Carmel Beach and walking the paths of the quaint village, golfing with friends on the lush greens of California, and watching the deer and birds from her balcony in Grass Valley. She loved cooking her favorite gourmet meals that she served with more flair than the chefs of San Francisco, and caring for the broken-winged children who found their way into her nurturing warmth and compassion. She will not soon be forgotten.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church in Edmond. Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Edmond.
Donations may be made to Saint Mary’s Episcopal School Building Fund or Free to Live Animal Shelter, PO Box 5884, Edmond, OK 73083.
