Jerry Park

EDMOND —     Jerry Park, 76, was surrounded by his family when he passed away peacefully at his home in Kalispell, Mont., on August 12, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born June 30, 1937 in Dallas, Texas to Sidney and Erin Park.

    He was richly blessed, due to his father’s job, to live and attend school in numerous countries including Australia, Denmark, Holland and Africa. He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas. He then became a beloved Texas Christian University horned frog and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication in 1961 from TCU.

    He served honorably in the Texas National Guard as an armor officer from 1961-1969. He began his career in radio broadcasting in Lubbock, Texas.  By the late 1960’s he was reporting news and sports in Dallas for KDFW channel 13 and WFAA channel 8. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1974 to become the sports director for KOCO channel 5 and started a 25 year career retiring in 1999 from KOCO. He was honored to be inducted into the Oklahoma Broadcaster’s Hall of Fame in 2008 for his many years of dedicated service to journalism.

    Jerry was involved with United Cerebral Palsy, Bible Study Fellow-ship and he was an active member of Southern Hills Christian Church. He enjoyed reading and traveling.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Erin Park.

    He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susie Park of Kalipsell, Mont.; son Rusty Park of Kalispell, son Randy and Anne Park of Plainfield, Ill.; daughter, ShyAnn and Grant Milner of Edmond, Okla.; grandchildren Lauren Park; Ryan and Maggie Park and Mason and Jacob Milner; sister Kay and Joe Bob Fikes of Lake Kiowa, Texas; brother-in-law, Larry Webb, sister-in-laws Nancy Malik and Betsy Hayes; and aunt Jean Patton.

    Jerry left a legacy that will be remembered forever.

    A celebration of his life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Southern Hills Christian Church, Edmond.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Tree of Life Endowment at Southern Hills Christian Church, 3207 S. Boulevard, Edmond OK 73013.
