Nancy Jane Gallop

EDMOND —     Nancy Jane (Strother) Gallop, 77, died quietly at home surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, April 25, 2013.  She was born October 21, 1935 in Columbia, S.C., to Walter and Beulah Strother. She moved to Weatherford, Okla. with her family in the summer of 1947.

Nancy graduated from Weatherford High School in 1953, and then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Education in 1958 from Southwestern State College where her father was assigned as Dean of Pharmacy.  She married Bob Gallop, also a graduate of Southwestern, and moved to Oklahoma City to begin her career.  After teaching several years at Putnam City, and then as a counselor, Nancy returned to school in the evenings and was awarded a Masters of Education in Guidance and Counseling in 1969 from Central State University in Edmond.

For many years, Nancy was a guidance counselor at Edmond Memorial High School during the administration of Sam Wynn.  She loved “her kids” and enjoyed helping them succeed in school and making plans for their future.  She continued to follow their success after their graduation.  She retired in 1990 to spend more time with her family and grandchildren.

Nancy’s outgoing, caring and giving nature led her to spend much time volunteering at her beloved church, First Christian Church of Edmond where she was a deacon and served as a Stephen minister.

She loved to watch OSU and OU sports, Thunder basketball and following the career of one of her students as he coached the University of Kansas Jawhawks basketball team.

Nancy had many friends and she treasured each one of them.  Her family and friends were truly blessed by the unconditional love she showered on all of them.

Nancy is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Bob Gallop; her son Dennis Gallop; her daughter Susan and Brian Huffer; two grandchildren, Lucas Huffer and Madison Huffer, all of Edmond, and her sister Betty Hill of Plantation, Fla.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday April 30 at First Christian Church of Edmond. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond. Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Edmond.
