Loyd Curtis Rice

EDMOND —     Laugh out loud and love out loud.  That’s what Loyd Curtis Rice did, and everyone responded in kind.  He was a cowboy, a wheat harvester, a corporal in the army during the Korean War, an insurance agent, and a manager of a domino and billiards hall.  But mainly he was a guy who loved people.  He loved them by giving them bags of M&Ms, by baking pies, by grilling steaks, and by giving them money, kindness, and attention.

Loyd Curtis Rice, 84, was born December 3, 1928 to Edward Allen Rice and Agnes Inez Rice (formerly Dagleish).  He spent his childhood and young adult years in Cheyenne, Okla., but after his military service he moved to Edmond.

Loyd married Wanda Joy Casto in 1958 and became the father of six children. He was a role-model father, grandfather, great grandfather, and human being.  Loyd was handed off graciously to the angels on May 11, 2013 after a long battle with COPD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, all his brothers and sisters, his wife Wanda, his daughter Margene Green, and his son Ricky Hershel Cast.

He is survived by his three sons Frank Cast, James Cast, and Allen Rice, his daughter Linda Cast, and his daughter in love, Deedee Rice.  He is also survived by a nearly infinite number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends who are as close as family.

Loyd openly declared his Christian faith and his desire to “pass on” to the better place.  He was a great man and even better, he was a good man.  He was gentle and generous, kind and considerate.  He made our planet a much better place and he made us all want to be better people.  And he made us laugh.

A visitation for Loyd (really just a time to tell “Pop” stories with family and friends) will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday May 15th at Crawford Family Funeral Service in Edmond.

A service celebrating Loyd’s life will be 2 p.m. Thursday May 16th at Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond Oklahoma, with a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made out to “The Edmond Senior Center” with the notation “In memory of Loyd Rice.”
