EDMOND —     Randy Eugene Elsner was born June 29, 1957 in Shawnee, Okla., to Kenneth and Bonnie Elsner. He passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013 in Oklahoma City.

    Randy spent his early years in the small community of Cromwell, Okla. In junior high, his family moved to Edmond, Okla. where he graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in 1975. After high school, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, where he enjoyed the 1976 Olympics.

    Randy had a lifelong love of geography, history and politics. While in Germany, he researched his Elsner family roots and loved the culture and people there. He was a Civil War scholar and enjoyed reading and researching topics that interested him. He loved OU football. Randy will be remembered as a kind soul with a loving spirit.

    Randy is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Bonnie Elsner; brother, Russell Elsner; sister, Robin Thomas and nieces Lindsey and Dana Thomas, all of Edmond.

    A memorial service to celebrate the life of Randy will be 3 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013 at Crawford Family Funeral Service, 610 NW 178th St. Edmond, OK. Interment will be in Okemah, Okla.
