EDMOND —
Linda Kay Pickard Slabotsky, 54, of Deer Creek, Okla., passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012.
She was born May 16, 1958 in Edmond, Okla. to Stanley and Janice Pickard. She attended Deer Creek Schools where she excelled at basketball as a starting forward for the Lady Antlers and graduated in 1976. She later attended the University of Central Oklahoma, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1993.
She was a devoted mother to the three children of her first marriage: Kyle, Kari and Taylor Barnes who were her pride and joy. In 1994, she and her one true love Bryan Slabotsky found each other and were married a year later. She took under her wing his four children: Lindsey, Allison, Eric and Kyle Slabotsky.
Together they spent the next 11 years in Oklahoma City raising their children. Linda was a devoted mother who could be counted on to be there and was always the loudest fan on the sidelines at any event in which their children participated.
After their children left the nest, Linda and Bryan moved from Oklahoma City to the Deer Creek area and built a new home in the country that she loved. She was surrounded with love and care by her family and was looking forward with great joy to her daughter Kari’s first child.
Linda is survived by her husband Bryan D. Slabotsky, her children; “Big” Kyle Barnes, Kari Barnes Caldwell and husband Jared, and Taylor Barnes; her step-children, Lindsey Slabotsky Pence and husband Dane and two children, Allison Slabotsky and her husband Ryan, Eric Slabotsky and his wife Tiffany and two children, and “Little” Kyle Slabotsky. She is also survived by her father Stanly Pickard and his wife Julia, sister Cindy Pickard O’Kelly and her partner Kevin Haworth, brother Derick Pickard and wife Natalie; her life-long friend and sister-in-law Norma Slabotsky as well as a host of other family members.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother Helen Janice Pickard, her uncle Jerry Lynch and uncle Melvin Lynch.
Viewing services will be Thursday, September 27 at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday September 28, 2012 at Baggerley Funeral Home in Edmond. As Linda was OUs biggest fan, the family requests that you proudly wear your OU shirts or red and white to the services. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery, 8555 NW 234th St., Edmond.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, HDSA.org as Linda’s greatest hope was that a cure be found so that her family and others will finally be freed.
Services entrusted to the care of Baggerley Funeral Home of Edmond. www.baggerley.com
