Brenda Margaret Messer

Baggerley Funeral Home

EDMOND —     Brenda Margaret Messer, 75, of Edmond, Okla., passed away at home Thursday September 5, 2013. At the time of her passing she was in the presence of her husband and two daughters.

Brenda was born in London, England to the late William and Hilda Whyman on January 28, 1938. She spent her youth in North London in the area known as Archway. She married Darius Messer Jr., now retired, Senior Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force on September 29, 1956; this year would have marked their 57th year of life together.

Brenda was a career homemaker whose hobbies included SCUBA diving, painting and sketch work, various table card games like Bunko as well as bowling, bingo and her well known green thumb for her garden. In every home they lived in, the gardens would become idyllic oases of flora and tranquility; a talent and love that she has passed on to her daughters.

While being from England, Brenda has spent the past nearly 34 years in the United States, living in Arkansas, Georgia, and Oklahoma. Prior to their last move to the States she and Darius also spent portions of their married life in Texas and California.

Brenda was a very tenacious and out-spoken woman. She was very sharp witted and had a classic dry sense of humor.   She was the lynchpin of her family.

Brenda is survived by her husband Darius Messer Jr.; daughters Julie Clark-Gimmel and her husband Dennis Gimmel and Donna Messer-Jones; son William Messer and his wife Cindy Messer; five grandchildren: Christine Kline, Rachel Williams, Kathrine Jones, Derek Messer and Ian Messer, and great-granddaughter Blakelynn Williams. She is also survived by her brothers who reside in England, Donald Whyman and Christopher Whyman in addition to all of her extended family also residing in England.

Brenda was preceded in death by her grandson Kent Forrest Jones, son of Donna Messer-Jones.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 10 at Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel.
