Lloyd DeVere Peery

EDMOND —     Lloyd DeVere Peery, 91, formerly of Edmond, Okla., died at home in Manhattan, Kan., on Sept. 3, 2013. Lloyd was born October 10, 1921, in his parent’s home outside of Edgar, Neb.

Between his birth and death, Lloyd lived a life characterized by service to family and country, sacrifice, suffering and hardship, but also of love, dedication and happiness.

He served in the Pacific theatre in the United States Navy during WWII. Before and after his military service he worked for the FBI, retiring in 1974 as a special agent.

After his retirement from the Bureau, he continued to use his investigative skills at the State Auditor and Inspector’s Office as an inspector.

Lloyd also served on the Alcoholic Beverage Law Enforcement Commission as a commissioner, appointed by Gov. George Nigh.

He and his wife, Dorothy, spent many years criss-crossing the country in their motor home, finally settling in Carbon, Texas. After a ranch accident, his younger son convinced them to move to Manhattan, Kan., where they resided since 2006.

He was preceded in death in 2012 by his beloved wife of 59 years, Dorothy Etherson Peery; parents Reece Carl and Goldie Edith Schnelle Peery; brother, Carl LaVerne Peery; sisters, Melba Soper, Wilma Higgins, and Francis Machost.

Lloyd is survived by his sons, James (Dagmar) Peery, of Edmond, Ron Peery, of Manhattan, Kan., grandson Patrick Fairchild and granddaughter Ily Peery Murdock both of Salt Lake City, Utah, and four great-grandsons, Isaac, Micah, Reece and Davis Murdock.

Services were September 12, 2013 in Marionville, Mo., with burial at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
