Thomas Roland Moorman

EDMOND —     Thomas Roland “Dick” Moorman, 88, of Jasper, Ind., formerly of Martinsville, Ind., slipped away Friday September 6, 2013, with his family by his side.

He was born January 27, 1925,  in Batesville, Ind., one of nine children of Herman and Loretta (Mollaun) Moorman. He graduated from Batesville High School in 1943 where he played center on the champion basketball team. He went into the Air Corps where he served as a B-17 bomber pilot until 1946. He played basketball while in the Air Corps and as a walk on for Purdue University where he graduated with a degree in Pharmacy. He then married his first wife, Rita Weigel, who died at a young age in 1962 after bearing his first seven children. He married Sally Fitzgerald on July 20, 1963.

Dick was employed by Eli Lilly for 37 years during which time he was a district salesman, a district manager, and finally a department head in sales training.

Dick’s charisma, character and wicked sense of humor live on in his wife of 50 years, Sally; nine living children: Beth Park and husband Ho, Terri Barrett and husband Buddy, Kaye Battles and husband Paul, Linda Vater and husband Jamie, Dave Moorman and wife Tracie, Barb Schroeder and husband Walt, Martin Moorman and wife Leigh, Meg Moorman, and Tom Moorman and wife Becki, 20 grandchildren, three great grandchildren. He is survived by twin sisters Betty Ricci and Billy Laugle and his brother Ace Moorman.

Dick is also preceded in death by his oldest son, Joe Moorman.

Dick was passionate about his family, Catholic faith (he was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus,) countless friends, and his beloved golf. He was adored by his children and grandchildren and seemed to cast his spell on all who met him. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 10,  at Costin Funeral Chapel, Martinsville, Inc., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and visitation on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass.
