Joye Dewbre Young

EDMOND — Joye Dewbre Young, 83, of Edmond, Okla., went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2012. She was born Oct. 8, 1928 in Shawnee, Okla., to Grady and Delores Dewbre. A graduate of Capitol Hill High School, Joye met the love of her life, Jim Young, and together they shared 60 years of marriage. They were longtime members of Hillcrest Christian Church where she served as secretary and on the board of directors before later moving to First Christian Church in Oklahoma City. In the 60’s, Joye and Jim owned Davis & Iron Furniture Co. She attended five different colleges to obtain her degree in accounting, while working in the oil and gas and construction industry, and served as an officer in the National Women in Construction.

After retiring, Joye moved to Edmond to be close to her family. Joye had a passion for playing bridge, loved attending North Church with her family, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a supporter of the Country Music Singers Assoc. and Rodeo Opry.

Joye was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 60 years, Jim Louis Young, Sr., grandson, Jason Young; and niece, Amy Dewbre Hill.

She leaves cherished memories with her daughter, Teri Newby and husband Cole of Edmond; son, Jim L. Young, Jr. of Shawnee, Okla., brother Kenneth Dewbre and wife, Elizabeth of Moore; five grandchildren: Trasy Newby Barnett and husband, Jeff; Colton Newby, Cameron Newby, Paul Young, and Adam Young, all of Edmond; great-grandchildren Ashtynn & Dilynn Barnett; and many other cherished family and friends.

Joye requested memorials be made to the Jan Barton Scholarship Fund, c/o CMSA 5916 Megans Way, Edmond, OK 73034.

A viewing will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Services to celebrate her life will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2012 at the South Lakes Chapel with burial to follow at Resthaven Cem. Friends may leave condolences at www.vondelsmithmortuary.com.
