EDMOND —
LoRee Ann McCan Stubbs, 93, was born July 3, 1918 and went to be with the Lord February 6, 2012. She was born in Wilson, Okla., to Beulah and ER McCan. The fourth child of nine, LoRee graduated from Wilson High School in 1936.
After high school, LoRee met the love of her life, Charles W. Stubbs, where they both were working at Veazey Drugstore; she worked as a cashier, he was a soda jerk. They were married in the afternoon on Nov. 9, 1942, and that night Charles left for 33 months for a tour in Italy and North Africa during World War II.
While Charles was in WWII, LoRee lived with three of her sisters in San Diego, Calif., and worked in an airplane plant. She loved California; but when Charles returned from WWII, he took a job with an insurance company in Oklahoma and went to school at OU and OCU law school, and later started his own law practice.
LoRee was always involved at her girl’s school as homeroom mom, in charge of the parties, driving them to some activity or church activities. She loved her Sunday school class, the couples class, at St. Luke’s Methodist church in Oklahoma City. She always helped plan a dinner at church, work at the State Fair booth or organize a class party. She loved gardening and sewing, making both daughters’ wedding gowns. Another love of LoRee’s was baking pies and cookies; she especially loved to make lemon cookies for her son- in-law Dean.
After LoRee’s grandchildren were born, she was always available to help. Her grandkids loved spending time with her and making coke floats, fighting over the red headed baby doll, climbing on the dividing wall, and going to McDonalds on Classen Blvd.
LoRee worked with Charles at his law office. She lived her life loving people and serving. She will be missed by all that knew her. We know her and Charles are dancing to “Blueberry Hill”.
LoRee is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Stubbs, three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Shipley and husband Dean, and Penny Anthony and husband Paul; five grandchildren: Sara, Emily and Bethany Shipley, Erika Brown and husband Kanyon and Cole Anthony. Also left behind are sisters Laverne Patterson and husband Joe and Colleen Smith.
A come-and-go reception was 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 at Crawford Family Funeral Service.
Services to celebrate LoRee’s life will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, February 9 in the Chapel of the First Christian Church of Edmond, 2nd & Boulevard, under the direction of Crawford Family Funeral Service with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, OKC.
