EDMOND —     Fannie Doak (Laird) McAvoy, 94, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2012.  Originally born March 16, 1918 in Wizard Wells, Texas, Fannie attended the Oklahoma College for Woman in Chickasha, Okla. and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1939.  She met her future husband, Homer F. McAvoy Sr. at a teacher’s convention and they married on June 21, 1942.  They lived in St. Louis, Mo., for a short time and moved to Muskogee, Okla. in 1946.  In 1973, they moved to Broken Arrow, Okla., after Homer’s retirement.  Fannie loved teaching, being involved with various social and church activities and especially loved driving her car.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Purl and Ethel Laird; brother Bryson, and sister, Elda Purl; her husband Homer F. McAvoy Sr. who passed away in 1993, and her oldest son, Homer F. McAvoy Jr. who passed away in 2011.

    She is survived by her youngest son, James L. McAvoy and his wife Marti and their daughter Samantha; her daughter-in-law Theresa McAvoy and children Michelle Habibnia, Mark McAvoy, and Jennifer Flynn; and her sister, Gertrude Goad. She will be greatly missed by many loved ones.

    Viewing will be 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2012; the funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, Okla.  Interment will be Wednesday December 5, at Cottonwood Cemetery near Bryson, Texas.
