EDMOND —
Edward Eugene Sams, 85, of San Antonio, Texas, went to be with our Lord on March 1, 2013 in Edmond, Okla., after a 15-year struggle with dementia. By God’s “Amazing Grace”, Mr. Sams went peacefully in the morning sun.
“Gene” was born February 1, 1928, in Ashville, N.C., to George and Sally Coleman Sams. He graduated from Ashville Lee Edwards High School in June 1946. He was married to his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Anne Scruggs, on January 1, 1956.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Anne); son Edward E. Sams, Jr.; daughter Cynthia S. Mutz; grandsons Gilbert E. Sams and Jonathan M. Sams; great-grandson Gage, and great granddaughter Abriella.
A private viewing for immediate family was 2 p.m. March 1, 2013 at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, Okla.
