Chart new course: EPS board will meet to begin search for new superintendent

ENID, Okla. — Enid Public Schools Board of Education this evening will chart the course for the district’s search for a new school superintendent.

The board will meet in special session at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Office, 500 S. Independence.

First on the agenda is an executive session for the purpose of discussing the superintendent vacancy.

Shawn Hime, superintendent since 2008, has been hired as executive director of the Oklahoma State School Board Association. His duties there begin April 1, but his last day with EPS has not been determined.

The board also will take up the issue of whether to hire the Oklahoma State School Board Association to facilitate a superintendent search.

Amber Fitzgerald, human resources and communications director for EPS, earlier said the last superintendent search lasted about three months.

OSSBA, a statewide organization that promotes education through training and information services for school board members, offers assistance with the search process by offering such services as assisting with the paperwork, helping with background checks, compiling resumes, scheduling interviews and arranging meeting space.
