OUR VIEW: Thank you, Edmond Samaritans

The Edmond Sun

EDMOND — A community such as Edmond’s cannot grow without compassion and caring. Once again, the annual Samaritan Fund Drive benefiting the HOPE Center of Edmond proves just how caring the people of Edmond can be.

This year’s goal of $165,000 was surpassed with a total of $172,581 raised by donations. Those donations came in to the HOPE Center in small amounts to large checks — many with names and some made anonymously.

However the donation may have arrived, we know it was sent with love and respect for an agency that goes above and beyond in its caring for those who suddenly find themselves in need.

The agency serves more than 500 residents a month who find themselves facing a variety of daunting circumstances. Those situations often stem from poverty due to unexpected job loss, catastrophic illness or oftentimes a divorce. Whatever the case may be, hundreds find themselves in dire straights in Edmond each month in spite of the community’s wealthy image.

But the image that Edmond can proudly show to the rest of the state is that of a city of more than 80,000 who takes care of their own. Through the hundreds of donations large and small, residents put their money where their hearts are — at home in Edmond.

We would like to personally thank each and every donor who generously gave to this worthy cause. This selfless giving is what allows the HOPE Center of Edmond to continue its mission of aiding those who find themselves in less fortunate circumstances. Thank you Edmond for your generous giving that allows this agency to be not just a success, but a beacon of light to those in need.
