An Edmond man wanted on a felony warrant related to an alleged assault on an officer at a local hospital was arrested Sunday, incident reports show.
At 5:43 a.m. Aug. 30, Police Officer Jason Lewellyn was dispatched to the 300 block of W. Second Street in reference to a person dancing and talking to themselves in the middle of the street, a report filed by Lewellyn stated.
Lewellyn stated that when he arrived, a male was standing on a street corner sweating profusely and smoking a cigarette while he was talking with a fellow officer.
When he asked a question, the male had a blank stare on his face and answered incoherently, Lewellyn stated. The male was grinding his teeth and his speech was slow, thick and slurred, Lewellyn stated.
The male denied consuming any illegal substances, Lewellyn stated.
Based upon his unusual behavior he believed the male was on some type of illegal substance so he placed him under arrest for public intoxication, Lewellyn stated.
Officer Brenton Brown transported the male for medical clearance at OU Medical Center-Edmond, Lewellyn stated.
While the nurses were out of the room, the male stood in an aggressive manner, allegedly used his right elbow to strike Brown and allegedly attempted to head butt him before Brown could secure him, Lewellyn stated.
Brown had to hold the male on the floor until other officers arrived to assist, Lewellyn stated.
