Ten University of Oklahoma sophomores, including two Edmond residents, have been named recipients of the prestigious Rita H. Lottinville prize. The students were honored during a March luncheon hosted by the University of Oklahoma Foundation Board of Trustees. Foundation President Guy L. Patton and OU Provost Nancy Mergler presented the awards.
The 10 finalists were selected from a pool of 284 OU sophomores, who maintained a 3.86 grade-point average or better their freshman year while taking a minimum of 12 credit hours.
Edmond’s recipients of the $500 Lottinville Prize are Matthew John McCarter and Melissa Jane Muhlinghause.
Mergler told the students that in addition to the monetary value, the prize came with “access privileges” to faculty and administration. “You are special. You have distinguished yourselves, not only as articulate, brilliant scholars, but also as leaders,” Mergler said. “As administrators and faculty, we want to hear from you.”
