Oil company provides free seedlings to schools

The Edmond Sun

EDMOND Cross Timbers Elementary fifth-grade art students hold some of the dawn redwoods and lacebark elms Edmond urban forester Carrie Tomlinson delivered to the school Thursday morning, courtesy of Apache Oil Company in honor of Arbor Day.

The students, from left, Dakota Neighbors, Jeslyn Freeman, Clayton Silver, Kennedy Wilson and Kelly Beall, along with the rest of their class, made posters last fall for a national Arbor Day art contest.

Apache Oil donated more than 500 seedlings for Tomlinson to deliver to seven Edmond schools.

Eight fifth-graders will be recognized Saturday afternoon during Edmond’s Arbor Day celebration at the Festival Marketplace in downtown Edmond. The event is from 1-4 p.m. Saturday.

Edmond’s Water Resources will give away free rain gauges and provide water conservation tips. Visitors to the booth can register for a drawing for tree gators and xeriscape plants.

As in past years, Edmond Electric will give away seedlings at its booth. Several species of trees will be given away including Red Bud, Dessert Willow, Lacebark Elm, Indian Cherry, Loblolly Pine, Cedar Elm and Carolina Buckthorn.

Edmond Electric also is sponsoring the event’s free T-shirts that feature the designs from the winners of the Arbor Day Poster Contest.
