Local youth graduate from Youth Leadership Oklahoma
Upcoming Edmond seniors Laurel Cunningham and Lindsey Brinkworth, Edmond Santa Fe; Mattie Gattenby, Edmond Memorial; and Laura Iwuchkwu, Edmond North, graduated from Youth Leadership Oklahoma’s Class VIII on June 13 in Oklahoma City.
They were selected to be in the group of 54 youths based on demonstrated leadership in their schools and communities. Leadership Oklahoma created YLOK with a mission to develop young leaders who feel hope, pride and responsibility for Oklahoma’s future.
The week-long program began in Oklahoma City and concluded at the Phillips Pavilion on the grounds of the governor’s mansion. Other locations visited throughout the week included Stillwater, Tulsa, Enid, Ardmore, Ada, Newcastle and Norman. At each location, YLOK Class VIII learned about Oklahoma’s resources, issues and treasures, met with state leaders and further developed their own leadership skills.
“This is an outstanding group of young leaders,” said Brent Kisling, chairman of the Youth Leadership Oklahoma Program Committee. “It is clear that Oklahoma has a lot to look forward to as this generation steps forward to take leadership roles in their state and community in the years to come.”
