Local students named to Dean’s List at Washington University
Three students from Edmond were named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2008 semester at Washington University in St. Louis.
The students, enrolled in the university’s College of Arts & Sciences, include Allison Coffman, a graduate of Casady School in Oklahoma City; Anil Rao, a graduate of Edmond North High School; and Jonathan Xia, a graduate of Oklahoma School of Science & Math in Oklahoma City.
To qualify for the Dean’s List in Arts & Sciences, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or above and be enrolled in at least 14 graded units.
Kadavy named to Oklahoma State University President’s Leadership Council
Jessica A. Kadavy of Edmond is one of 120 freshman students selected to receive a $1,500 President’s Leadership Council Scholarship at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater this fall.
This freshman scholarship is based upon academic achievement, leadership potential, and school and community service. Each student will take a three-hour leadership class and will serve on the President’s Leadership Council, which is both an honorary and a working organization, according to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.
As part of the President’s Leadership Council, students will be expected to continue excellence in these areas as they continue to develop their personal leadership skills. Last year students selected for the council had a combined total of 4,707 community service hours.
Kadavy, a 2008 graduate of Edmond Santa Fe High School, is the daughter of Kevin and Lisa Kadavy of Edmond. She plans to major in elementary education at OSU.
Local resident accepted to Harding University
Molly Brooks of Edmond, daughter of Lanny and Hope Brooks, has been accepted at Harding University for the fall 2008 semester.
Brooks attended Edmond Memorial High School where she was involved in National Honor Society and orchestra and was a National Merit Commended Scholar, salutatorian and Oklahoma Academic Scholar.
Oklahoma City attorney joins OCU Law school
Bernard Jones, an attorney with Oklahoma City law firm McAffee & Taft, has joined Oklahoma City University School of Law as assistant dean for admissions. Jones, who currently practices in the areas of labor and employment law, family law and products liability litigation, will begin at OCU Law on Tuesday.
3 Edmondites receive Lew Wentz Project Awards
Joshua Ward, Jonathan Pratt and John Davis of Edmond have been named among 60 undergraduate students at Oklahoma State University to receive $4,500 Lew Wentz Foundation Project Awards for 2008-09.
Ward’s project is “Achieving Excellence in Academic Ethics: A Review of Oklahoma State University’s Investment in Academic Integrity,” and he will work with faculty mentor Anand Sukhan, assistant professor of microbiology and molecular genetics.
Ward is the son of Mark and Reba Ward, and is a senior majoring in cell and molecular biology and microbiology. He is a graduate of Edmond North High School.
Pratt’s project is “Optimization of Composite Scaffolds for Tissue Engineering,” and he will work with faculty mentor Sundararajan V. Madihally, assistant professor of chemical engineering. Pratt is the son of Ed and Lynn Pratt, and is a junior majoring in chemical engineering. He is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian Upper School.
Davis’ project is “Joystick Controlled Visualization Environment for Medical Volume Data,” and he will work with faculty mentor Guoliang Fan, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering.
Davis is the son of John and Stephanie Davis and is a sophomore majoring in electrical engineering. He is a graduate of Deer Creek High School.
Recipients arrange with their professors to receive two hours of academic credit for their project during the spring semester of 2009 and will submit a progress report during the first semester and a final report at the end of the spring semester. Award recipients must achieve meaningful results in two semesters from their projects.
Rose State College announces honor rolls
Rose State College in Midwest City recently announced its summer honor rolls.
Edmond students on the President’s Honor Roll include: Allison Morgan, Louma Sebaihi, Ashish Shrestha and Misty Laureen Stephens.
Vice President’s Honor Roll students include Tera Elizabeth Bailey, Jana S. Brennan, Vernon Ross Brown III, Valerie Marie Darden, Shawn A. Davenport, Joshua Thomas Edwards, Jane Ellen Fisher, Jessica Rayne Gossage, Cynthia Marie Judd, John B. Marshall, Jean Wayne Mastriano, Amanda Marie Raymond, Kodilyn M. Shoemake, Angelika Dyane Smith, Matthew Christopher Smith and Darcy Marie Stewart.
Guthrie students on the Vice President’s Honor Roll include Cheryl A. Hamilton and Sheri Dawn Shuck.
